5 Life Reminders from Bollywood

By Saloni Nahar

  1. "Picture Abhi Baki Hai Mere Dost" - “The film isn’t over yet”

You’re the main character in the story of your life. Your life will come with its own plot line, characters, and conflicts. As time goes on, new characters will be added, conflicts will be resolved, and you’ll travel to new settings. This quote is a good reminder that even if you’re feeling at the lowest of lows, there will always be more to the story: “Picture Abhi Bhaki Hai Mere Dost”.

2. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham - “Sometimes there is joy, sometimes there is sorrow”

If you’ve seen the Pixar film “Inside Out”, you’ll remember how much the importance of feeling all of our emotions was emphasized. It can be easy to suppress how we truly feel when we’re feeling down or in pain, but we need to honor all of our emotions in order to sustain a healthy balance. Because life isn’t always going to be sunshine and rainbows: “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”.

3. Jo Hai Samaa, Kal Ho Na Ho - “Tomorrow you might not have the same time as you have today”

The only constant in life is change. It’s very difficult to control the future, but what we can control is the present. The habits we keep, the people we keep around us, and how we treat ourselves on a daily basis. Time is precious and time is fleeting: “Jo Hai Samaa, Kal Ho Na Ho”.

4. Kabhi kabhi galat train bhi sahi jagah pahucha deti hai - “Sometimes even the wrong train takes us to the right station.”

Life is filled with decisions. Should I move? Should I accept this job? Should I quit my job? Should I “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani” my life and go on a hike in Manali? All of these big decisions can often lead to analysis paralysis. The thing is though, you can get to the same place in a plethora of ways. Next time you’re heavily weighing a decision and are really afraid of making the wrong one, remember: “Kabhi kabhi galat train bhi sahi jagah pahucha deti hai”.

5. Khul ke jhoome, khul ke gao - "Dance freely, sing freely”

By the time we’re adults we become accustomed to social norms and to fitting in a box. It’s easier to do what everyone else is doing, and lose your own individuality in the process. You may become discouraged, feel like you have to mute yourself, or behave a certain way to please others. Live your life authentically, for you: “Khul ke jhoome, khul ke gao.”
